Its bees

In the pristine expanse of Pitcairn Island, nestled in the South Pacific, lies a treasure trove of nature's bounty – its bees. Renowned for their exceptional health and gentle demeanor, these bees produce honey of unparalleled quality. A pioneering apicultural scientist, drawn by the allure of Pitcairn's bee population, discovered their remarkable docility, enabling work with minimal protection. This revelation sparked the prospect of exporting live Queen bees, adding another dimension to Pitcairn's economic potential.

With approximately 60 hives dotting the island's landscape, the capacity for expansion looms large, promising a hive count potentially fivefold. The honey harvested here owes its rich, intense flavor to the diverse array of blooms – mango, lata, passion flower, guava, and rose apple – flourishing abundantly across Pitcairn. In 1998, the UK's Department for International Development invested in an apiculture program, empowering Pitcairn's beekeepers with training and conducting thorough disease assessments. This support opened doors for Pitcairn's honey to reach markets beyond its shores.
